Meet 2 year old rescue kitty, Leo!  He is not a retired breeder, nor was he bred here at our cattery.  He is a fantastic and affectionate young man who unfortunately has Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM).  HCM is the most common type of heart condition witnessed in cats. When hypertrophic cardiomyopathy occurs, the muscle of the heart becomes thickened. This can prevent the heart from working efficiently and eventually lead to heart failure and death. The good news is that if it is caught early, the condition can be managed with certain types of medication.
